Leavenworth -

January 29, 2007

I am getting behind again on posting…

actually I kind of procrastinated on these because I ordered prints of some of these photos and I didn’t want my friends to see them. I am willing to bet that none of them will check this blog before I give them the photos though. In my imaginary world I am pretty popular and people read my blog all the time – I don’t think that reality is so kind.
I struggle where to post my "good" photos on this blog (when it relates to my life) or my photo blog. One day I would like to develop a real photo web site and then just have one blog for everything else….
These are the photos from two weekends ago taken at our small group weekend outing. Myles flew all the way back form Florida for this. We spent the day in Leavenworth and Wenatchee State park sledding – good times!

I had to use the timer to take this shot – its tricky to run back and forth between the group and camera in all that snow. I fell once and everyone laughed. Hudson thought it was pretty funny and pleaded "Do it again Emmie!"

Beautiful Christina and Danielle – I am very sorry that I did not get a good picture of Melissa (she had her hands full with Isabella) but I will catch her sometime soon.

New Job

January 27, 2007

So it’s going pretty well. First week was  stressful only because everyone is incredibly busy that they don’t have a lot of time to show me what to do. By Friday I finally felt like I was starting to catch on a bit. On F22 the processes were a lot more defined. I had an electronic work queue where task were assigned to me and I knew what I was supposed to do (get through items in work queue) and how to do it. I wrote a lot of contracts, each contract was different but I could look at an example and glean from it what I needed to do. 787 is a lot more subjective. I have several projects that I am working on but it’s all stuff that I have figure out how to do for myself and there are no examples for me to copy. The difficult thing is that I don’t very many people or their specialties so I don’t really know where to go for the information. Consequently it takes me a long time to complete a task that could be simple if I new where to get all the information. 787 is totally new and Boeing is building this airplane totally different from they way they have built airplanes before, there are not many defined procedures or process – we are inventing them as we go. It makes for an interesting job. I think that I will grow to love it. I do feel a bit of resentment from people about my month long vacation coming up but I guess they are just going to have to deal with it.

Its snowed again…

January 14, 2007

What’s going on with our weather it is only supposed to snow in Seattle once every 13 years we are on or 3rd or 4th snow dump this year. This has sure been a very usual winter. I know this is nothing compared to Alaska but Friday morning I checked the temperature in Seattle is was 21 degrees with 84% humidity and in Anchorage it was 21 degrees with 95% humidity. I wouldn’t mind so much if Seattle was prepared for snow and knew how to clear and sand the streets – instead everything just shuts down. These are some pictures of frost that I took in the church parking lot this morning.

Practicing with my flash

January 13, 2007

I took these the other night – no natural light. I am trying to learn how to use my flash properly so that I don’t get those harsh shadows and flash pinpoints in the eyes. Well I still have the flash pinpoint problem but I am getting alittle better. I still have a lot to learn though. I still practicing.

We lost a tree…

January 6, 2007

Last night there was a howling wind storm but it was really nothing compared to the one three weeks ago when we lost power for 3 days so we didn’t think that much about it. About 1 am we were startled awake when we heard what sounded like a bomb hitting the house. We ran to the window and this is what we saw.

I took some pictures at 1 am but then I re took them this morning when the sun was up so that you can really see what happened.

The white packing peanut is from our neighbor and the last wind storm, he left a box of them in the ally between our houses and they blew all over our yard.

It took us awhile to figure out where the tree came from because we are surrounded by large trees. This is actually the top 30ft of a 150ft tree. You can sort of see where it broke off at the top.

Happy 2007!!!

A few photos from Christmas

January 1, 2007

First of all I apologies for not getting any Christmas cards out this year – It was just too much. We are still going to send out cards they are just going to be more like Valentines than Christmas Cards.

On Thursday Mom, Mark, Myles and I went down town to Pike Place Market and bummed around before Mark had to catch his flight home.

This was Mark’s Christmas present to us (It’s a lego Boeing 787).  It is fitting because I got new Job on the 787 program. and I am moving from F22 IDS (Integrated Defense Systems) to BCA (Boeing Commercial Airplanes) on January 19th.  I will be doing pretty much the same thing that I do now only on the commercial side. This is great for Myles and I because it means that we will both be working in Everett and we will be able to carpool together.

These are a few photos that I took on Christmas day with my D200 in Aunt Faye’s and Uncle Eric’s Back Yard. they are also on my photo blog.  I always downsize photos to put them on the web so if you want to make prints of anything just ask me and I will email you a full size version.
