So Simon started smiling yesterday. Yes, he has been smiling since birth but now he is doing it consciously  in response to us.  This morning he smiled  at me 5 times and he even did it for Myles and my mom too. So I of course whipped out my camera and tried to capture the conscious smile.

almost … He just isn’t going to corporate when I have my camera out – oh well maybe tomorrow.

with so many request for a family photo we decided it was time.

Usually we only do this at Christmas but I guess we will have to start doing it more frequently now.

I apologize for not posting sooner. Life happened. (Aunt Faye and Uncle Eric are home!!!!)
At his doctor appointment on Thursday Simon weighed 8 lbs 5 oz. So he has kept up his 2+oz a day weight gain. On Tuesday we have our third post natal appointment with the midwives and he will be weighed again  if he keeps it up he will be close to 9lbs.

In other news Simon took his first bottle today. I will a little worried that he would reject a foreign nipple but it didn’t seem to phase him at all. Yay! I can go out girls night out and not have to worry about him.

quite a few people have commented upon seeing Simon in real life that my photos make him appear far larger then he actually is. I think this is due to perspective, don’t be fooled he is a newborn and being born at 6.8 oz puts him in only the 24 percentile.

This is a photo of Myles holding Simon, I was going for something artistic only Simon was really not into it. he kept trying to nurse on Myles hand and he also peed all over everything. I still like this image even though it is a bit awkward. Simon is much like is dad – all arms and legs.

So how big is Simon now?

He had his first pediatrician appointment today and I am happy to say that he is completely healthy and normal.  Care to guess how much he weighed? take a stab at the following poll. I will post the answer tomorrow.

I can’t believe how fast this time has already gone and how much Simon has already changed. He is noticeably bigger and he has more awake/alert times.

Hi eyes are getting lighter and we are pretty sure that they are going to be blue. He really likes music, baths, and eating. He doesn’t much care for his car seat unless it is moving.
We are having fun getting to know our little man.

We had our one week Check up today, Simon is 10 days old. I could tell that he had already grown a lot but check it out…

It is a little hard to read the scale but it says 7 lbs 6 oz. At birth Simon weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. At 48 hours he weighed 6 lbs 2 oz. So in about 1 week Simon has put on a full pound – can you believe it? That’s more than 2 oz a day.  As the midwives put it "Mama makes cream" So yes I guess nursing is going well. Simon is otherwise very healthy, his PKU test came back completely normal.

While I was pregnant Myles played guitar for  The Belly almost every night, he is continuing that tradition by planing for Simon at night before we go to bed.

Simon does seem to enjoy the music, though he slept right through tonights concert.  He did have a big day. We had lunch with Great Grandma and Grandpa Greenway and Grandma and Grandpa Brown and then we had our appointment with the midwives.

And since Myles is honing up his photography skills I had him take a photo of Me with Simon, since I am in almost no photos.

I was just noticing how tired we both look. Really Simon is a pretty good sleeper, I guess we just need to get to bed earlier!
And with that note I am off to dream land.

The other day we gave Simon his first bath.

He really enjoyed it – as you can see he was totally relaxed.

For the record those are Myles’ hairy legs not mine.

These first two are for Meagan who knit this beautiful blanket for Simon. As soon as I saw it I knew it would photograph beautifully. Certain textures look really good in photos – I am always looking for blankets and rugs with interesting textures ito use in photos. Thank you Meagan for the beautiful blanket.

And here are my two boys – So sweet. This was taken this morning. I had to use a very high ISO because it was still pretty dark out.

This is a common seen around our house. We bought a  sling and now Myles and I bicker over who gets to carry Simon around.

And guess what… Simon got his very first piece of mail today, all the way from Anchorage Alaska. It was actually addressed to him.

really cute clothes, including a  crosstitched  bib (it seems way to nice to get food on it). 
Thank you so much Paul and Dawn (and yes, we will be using the diapers).

And for the record Abby the poop thing has already happened with the diaper off – several times. Maybe if I didn’t keep taking his diaper off to take photos it wouldn’t be such an issue but I can’t help myself I want photos while he is little. I am used to being peed and pooped on during newborn photo shoots, it just comes with the territory. However, Simon has set a record he pees and poops multiple times every time I take his diaper off. The other day I tried to take some photos of Myles holding Simon and in a 20 min period Simon pooped 3 times on Myles.

And Myles has begged me to post this video of Simon pooping. He thinks it’s the funniest thing ever. I promise you don’t see any poop you only hear it.

I just noticed that my maternity count down is still going… maybe I should figure out how to take that down now that we have a week old baby
