First Weekend away

April 30, 2008

So we spent the weekend in Portland and Simon spent his first night away from home. The night part was fine it was the day that was difficult as he had no interest in napping in the hotel room. I was hoping to get some nice 3 – month photographs of him but he spent most of the day pretty grouchy and would only nap while I carried him in the moby wrap so this is all I got.

taken at Washington Park – I love this park and I wish we had something this cool in Seattle.

Funky hotel room carpet – yeah, I hope he doesn’t get some funky hotel room disease from laying on it.

this is his "Mom, are we done yet?" look – note the glassy eyed stare and spit bubbles.

A vist from an old friend

April 30, 2008

You know those friends that it seems like no matter how long it has been since you last saw them you can just start up where you last left off…  Meagan is one of those friends. I met Meagan at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Fine Arts Camp back in high school. I actually went to camp to study music but ended up learning photography. Now my very pricey trumpet sits in the closet gathering dust while my camera gets used almost every day (but that is a story for another day).

Meagan

Meagan was kind enough to spend her birthday with us. I think she might have a touch of baby fever but as she is currently getting her masters I think she might have to wait a little bit.

thanks for the visit Meagan!

Massage Class

April 30, 2008

So I am a little bit behind on posting here so pardon me while I catch up : )

Myles and I took a infant massage class with Simon. I know that this sounds as if we are totally spoiling Simon (which we are) but I would highly recommend infant massage to any parent. It is just another way of bonding and connecting with your child. Massage is also a very good way to sooth a fussy baby and calm and relax them before bed. Simon loves getting massages (all except the tummy part – I think he is a bit ticklish) he totally relaxes and just eats it up.

I didn’t even think of taking my camera to massage class so these photos are courtesy of Shana one of the other moms.

"A year passed.  Winter changed into Spring.  Spring changed into Summer.  Summer changed back into Winter.  And Winter gave Springand Summer a miss and went straight on into Autumn..."

Yes, I feel like we are living in a Monty Python sketch. Can you believe this weather... snow in April???

Here is Simon making his first snow angel.Dsc_0236SO here we sit inside on a snow cold Saturday a full 45 degrees difference from last Saturday.

Dsc_0149_2

well this is not exactly what I had in mind but Simon was decidedly un-corporative.  Though he did like being outside.  I think I might try again. Right now it is snowing, it is hard to believe that last Saturday it was sunny and 80 degrees and now we are right back in the middle of winter.

Uncle Mark

April 13, 2008

My brother finally made it up to meet his first and only nephew. While Mark is not really the baby type I think he did surprisingly well in relating to Simon. And Simon seemed to really like him : )

We had a very nice weekend and we were sorry to see Mark go. We only wish that he lived closer so we could see him more often.  Megan, Ally, and Elle especially want to see more of Mark – they are the biggest members of the Mark fan club.
(Sorry, Mark I know that you are sick of us harassing you to move but it would be nice to have you in the same state)

what a sweetheart

He can only hold his head up like this for a few minuets before he either has to roll over or lay his head down on the floor. Sometimes he finds his fist much more interesting than my camera. After I took this photo he put his head down on the floor, found his fist and sucked away.

longing for the sunshine

April 9, 2008

I am running out of creative posing ideas for a 2 month old. There is only so much you can do with a baby that is to big to curl up and to little to really hold himself up.

Dsc_0080
I am beginning to notice that all of my photos are starting to look the same….
(Simon really looks like my little brother in the next photo)

Dsc_0064
I have some more outdoor stuff planned but the whether is just not cooperating. I am going to make and effort to get more creative indoors.

for starters here are some little baby feet.

Dsc_0073
yum! don’t you just want to kiss them?

and though this last one has a lot of technical problems but I am just throwing out there any way. We were really too close to the window to make the back lighting work but I still like the way he is looking at me : )

That Smile

April 8, 2008

He is smiling so much lately. I love discovering the little things that make him burst into a big grin. Latly it has been kissing noises, tongue  clicks, hand claps, and the ABC song. I was singing the ABCs when I captured this smile.

Dsc_0059_2
notice how when he smiles he closes is right eye slightly more than his left. too cute!

He has also learned how to blow spit bubbles.

Spicing up the Blog

April 7, 2008

You may have noticed that I am attempting to spice up my blog a bit and add a few more items of interest. If you read this blog in a feed reader or by email you might want to pop over and take a look.  I have updated the banner as well as included some more photos, articles that I find interesting, a list of photo blogs that I visit, and some good recipes. Just trying to make things a little more fun. I am going to continue to update so please check in periodically.

Also I want to mention that I love comments! A lot of people write me email comments on my post but if you have something insightful or funny to say please do post a comment so that everyone can enjoy your witty banter. And thanks to those who do already post comments.

And so as not to leave this post devoid of a photo here is Simon after his bath the other day.
Dsc_0050
I love how he smells after a bath and how he is always so completely relaxed. We have been giving him nightly baths just to wind him down in the evenings. He gets really spooled up and has a hard time going to sleep even though he is exhausted, the bath really helps with this. We have also been taking an infant massage class so Simon has been enjoying nightly massages.
