Simon is really into bath time now. No longer does he lay there passively relaxing. He enjoys the new found freedom of movement that the water affords him. He can actually get himself turned completely around now so the his head is at the opposite end of the tub. He can also kick off the sides and bottom and propel himself a few inches. Though I think this hurts the back of his head a bit as he grimaces each time he does it.

Why is the water so choppy in these photos ?.. because Simon is busy failing his arms and legs about and making waves.  He even splashes his face but doesn’t seem to mind. We have taken video of it but Myles is a bit behind on the editing. We will make a swimmer out of this kid yet!

My little giant

May 29, 2008

Simon had his 4 month old check up today. I was a bit off on my weight estimate. He is only 13 lbs .045oz
which puts him back in the 25% for weight (this is where he was at birth). He is now officially 26 inches tall though. Which means he is in the 85% for height. Coincidently  Simon’s little buddy Charlie from play group has edged him out slightly in the grown game which is only interesting because Charlie is 6 weeks younger than Simon. I think our play group might be working on a basketball team…

Can I just say that I  love Simon’s pediatrician. She is very nice and
great with Simon and she actually fills out the little childhood health
record for me (you know the little one they give you to take home).
Simon seems to like her, however, he did have a little melt down during his visit. He was
fine until she rolled him over on his tummy, but then he lost it and didn’t recover until we left the exam room.

Both of these pictures were taken  later this afternoon after we returned home. As you can see he seems to have forgotten all about the Doctors office.

I [heart] adoption

May 28, 2008

I had the privileged of baby sitting these two adorable children last week. They warmed right up to me, well really they warmed right up to Simon who they both loved and took turns holding and cuddling.

These are the first two kids to be placed with one of the families from our PRIDE class. PRIDE stands for Parents’ Resources for
Information Development Education. It is the Washington state required training for foster licensing. We took our training with 20 or so other couples in one marathon long weekend. We became friends with a lot of the other families going through the process and it is really exciting to see the first of many families to expand their family through foster-adoption.

As far as news on Simon, he did sleep much better last night. He had a bit of trouble falling to sleep which is unusual for him. However, once we got him to sleep (around 10 pm instead of his usual 8pm bed time) he slept through the night. Tonight he went to sleep at 7:30pm so I hope he doesn’t wake up at some ungodly hour.

Sleeping…

doesn’t he look so angelic here ?  You would never know the truth that my formerly good little sleeper was up every two hours last night. Hopefully tonight we will do better.

Smooches!

notes on the previous post. Simon didn’t seem to mind being on the grass but that was at a park and the grass was mostly moss. When I first put him down for a photo he immediately rolled over and began to cry. I thought that perhaps he hated the feel of the grass but then I discovered the stick that he had rolled on top of. It had scratched his leg.  When I put him back down he was fine and her cooperated for several photos :  )

My Giant Baby

May 25, 2008

Ok, he really isn’t that giant (I’m guessing 14 lbs) but compared to a newborn he is huge!

Fresh!

May 20, 2008

This is the first newborn that I have photographed since Simon’s birth and WOW he made Simon seem like a giant! I realize that Simon has grown…a lot – I suspect that he has more than doubled his birth weight but I won’t know for sure until next week. I guess I was not prepared to see such a teeny tiny one. Man they really change in 3 (almost 4) months.

this next photo was mom’s idea. Photograph of big brother and baby brothers hands. Lets just say when you are working with a 2-year-old it is a lot harder to pull off then you would think = )

I am loving 4-year-olds lately. It is like they are all bursting at the seems with personality!

Dsc_0133_2
2-year-olds are great too but they are much more challenging to capture.Look at those curls though!

I had to through this next one in there – it cracks me up. G-man took my direction to "put your hands in your pockets" a little too seriously and O-man looks like he could be modeling for Abercrombie and Fitch.
