We worked really hard for this shot! I am still looking forward to getting that buggy outside though.

2-year-olds soccer is an exercise in patience - sigh, I'm glad that's over! 5 days ago

We worked really hard for this shot! I am still looking forward to getting that buggy outside though.

Another beautiful baby girl. You may have already noticed her in my new rotating flash header.

Don’t worry Simon fans – I do still take pictures of my little boy and I have some of him to share shortly.
ETA: I almost forgot I was going to answer the questions about the video.
Here are the answers
In answer to the questions
Is the gray background wall color or paper?
Thunder Gray by Superior seamless background paper
Love the lighting. I usually have mine at 45 degrees, do you feather yours?
yes – I almost always shoot with it perpendicular (90 degrees) to my subject but it depends on what I am doing. As in the baby on black shot it’s completely parallel.
I do have a question about how you had your softbox positioned in some of these shots though…. it looks like it was pointed away from the subject??
not away from just perpendicular – this is called feathering
How do you keep your hands warm so that the naked baby doesn’t freak out when moved? Even though the rest of me is sweating, my hands aren’t warm enough for the baby.
I try to wash my hands with really hot water right before I begin the session. If that doesn’t work I warm them up over the heater.
what size did you make this darker hardwood floor?
I’t just one box of pergo from Home Depot.
what was the cord hanging from your camera?
That’s the sync cord – I am dying for some pocket wizards.

Months ago my fellow photographers over at 2peas asked if I would video a newborn session for learning purposes and I agreed to go it proving I had the right subject. I am sure that you remember Jewels (Julie Harrell). These are her daughters, Madeline (5) and Clara (7 days). They came down from Bellingham along with aspiring photographer Renee Bergeron. Jewels, nursed, rocked and soothed, I photographed, and Renee videoed and these are the results. I have to admit that this was not an easy session. Usually I can get enough images in about 1.5 hours – this session lasted 3.5 hours. But from a learning stand point it is probably actually better that she was not a super easy baby. What you don’t see in the video is all of the nursing that took place. Jewels fed this little girl no less than 6 times and even that combined with a room that was about 90 degrees she still wouldn’t sleep! So when all else failed we swaddled her. Swaddling is almost always guaranteed to put a newborn to sleep. However, I don’t really care for it in photos because you can’t see the baby’s beautiful hands and feet. Oh, well we got some cool images anyway. So with out further ado here is the video. (Make sure your sound is up so you can hear the cool soundtrack.)

I know that the subtitles are hard to read, but I have know idea how to optomize video for the web so this is what you are stuck with : ) If you have a question about something in the video or related to the video please leave your question in the comments and I will try and answer them all in a day or so in their own post.

The blanket in the first photo is a muslin swaddeling blanket by Aden and Anais. It looks great in photos but if you are a parent and want a swaddeling blanket for practical everyday use I highly recomen the Miracle blanket.
6 months old – doesn’t he remind you of a little cherub?

I am glad you visited.

doesn’t this just make you want to snuggle : )
I photographed a 6 day old this morning (I will post that session soon) and I realized that I am really bored with all of my baskets and I need to find some new ones. That’s my disease, I am a prop collector. But then I remembered that I do have one special basket that I am waiting to use outside. Hopefully it will be warm soon and an overcast but warm day will coincide with a newborn session.
More from the cookbook project.
These were so good! They actually have cooked millet in the batter (not millet flour) so they have a very interesting texture which I liked a lot. There is also no white sugar in the batter, you use maple syrup instead (directly in the batter). This was an awesome wholegrain recipe.
Enough with the crazy weather here!
It is again snowing and it’s a total blizzard outside. But here are some photos to warm you up : )
A sweet baby girl
I have to admit newborns are my favorite subject. I have a lot of great ideas bouncing around in my head and some things I want to try. If you are expecting a newborn sometime this summer and are interested in participating in some outdoor sessions with me I am offering a free session and one free 11×14 of your choice. Additional prints can be purchased at regular prices. Please contact me for more information. emily@emilyweaverbrownphoto.com

Normally I take Simon to his lesson but this week do to an injury (I
burned my arm making a smoothie) Myles got the honor. Myles had to take off work early to do this but it left me free to be able to video the event. Normally
there are 2 other kids in his lessons but we really lucked out that
both were not in attendance and Simon got a private lesson. Prefect day
to show up with a video camera : )
This is the first video that I have completely shot, edited and added music to all by myself. I think I am starting to get the knack of imovie.
Simon is not used to
swimming with his daddy and I think it’s funny how he doesn’t really
trust him with the back float. Notice how Simon holds on tight to
Myles’ fingers.
He really does love swimming and doesn’t mind
going under water at all. He is becoming quite the little fish. I am
really hung up on the idea of getting some underwater video of him but
I need to either borrow or rent an under water camera. Anyone have one
they want to loan me?
