Oh how I love sisters. I also think it’s very amusing that whenever I photograph siblings and I ask them to hug that the embrace starts off nice enough but almost always deteriorates into the children trying to squeeze the living tar out of each other.

Simon’s Curls

This is what his hair looks like right after a bath. I love the sweet little ringlets and the smooth shape of the back of his little neck, I am constantly kissing it when he sits of my lap and allows me to read him a book.  I wanted to document the curls because in all honesty I am considering cutting his hair. It looks really cute right when he gets out of the bath but as soon as he lays down on it or rolls around on the floor the curls disappear and quite frankly it looks like a mullet. I have always liked longer hair on little boys but right now the rest of it is not keeping up with the back.

Usually when he wakes up in the morning it’s sticking straight out, and inevitably at some point during the day he puts a sticky hand to it and pulls it into a sticky tuft. So I am thinking I should just have a little bit taken off the back, but then the sentimental side of me thinks – “I can’t trim off his baby curls! he’s still a baby”.

So I know that I haven’t provided you with a mullet photo from which to draw an objective opinion but I am wondering what the consensus is as to what I should do. I know it’s not just me who thinks he has a mullet. We were in a store the other day and another stranger made a comment about how cute he was and then followed it up with “Oh, and he has a mullet.”

So should I give Simon his first hair cut? And yes, I have asked Myles what he thought and he distractedly replied, “um, sure whatever” when I asked him if he thought I should take Simon for his first hair cut.

I was going to hold off on sharing these until I had the entire session proofed but I have no self control and I can’t wait.

The dad in these photos is my little brother’s college roommate. It’s weird to me that my little brother is old enough to have friends (the same age as him) with 2 kids – I guess it just makes me feel old. They are a super sweet family and baby Noah was very cooperative so I will post more later. In the meantime I am very much wanting to try with with a cello or string bass so if you have a newborn on the way and you play either of those instruments let me know.

I am so jealous of her hair! Isn’t it the coolest? And how cute is her perfect little bump!

Pregnancy yoga must be the ‘in’ thing these days because I have so many mom’s doing yoga poses for me these days. I have been learning a lot about the exercise and I think it might be something that I would like to try the next time around.

Fun session! and I can’t wait to meet her little guy or girl in a few weeks here.

I just love his eyes – they are so expressive.

This afternoon while Myles was working on putting a roof on our shed (the one he is building from scratch).  Simon and I had a mini photo session. He is at that stage where he wants constant attention and is not content to let me work on the computer or even chop of vegatables with out being in my arms.  So since I was entertaining him I thought why not take some photos. I used to be able to get a smile out of him just by singing, now it’s a lot more work.

here are the outtakes (secretly I know this is what everyone is really wanting to see.)

outtakesI usually show 20 – 40 proofs from any given photo session. This is a tribute to every parent who has wondered “she took a lot more than 20-40 images.. what was going on in all the rest of them?” I think this is a very good sampling of the images that I don’t show as proofs.

Simon has been cutting some molars the last few days and has been a little cranky. I had put him on a little stool to keep him in place but after about 10 min of this he learned how to climb down off it.

This may be the first session that I have had with twins where they slept better apart than together. From my experience twins like to be right next to each other but this brother and sister set were just fine on their own.

This little boy was 6.5 lbs and his sister (bellow) was only 4 lbs.  Don’t be deceived by these photos these babies are tiny.

dsc_0577bw

After Simon was born  most people saw photos of him before they met him in person and almost everyone commented “oh! he is a lot smaller than I thought” (he was also 6.5 lbs). And now when clients come for the sessions I often get comments about how small the props are. Like “wow that’s the baby carriage – it’s small.” Because they have seen the photos but they don’t really have an idea of scale in their head. I think people forget how small newborns are. Simon was about 3 months old when I started working again and I photographed a newborn. I was shocked at how tiny the baby was and I just kept thinking “my baby is huge” and it had only been 3 months. So if you are expecting – be prepared, newborns are tiny.

And here is one of the not so tiny cousin.

I couldn’t get over her fine features and her beautiful curls. Some children are truly breathtaking.

A sweet little girl.

Some day he is going to be really embarrassed that I did this to him. He loves the hat but was not keen on having his photo taken. I spotted this area months ago and I have been wanting to take photos there but what I didn’t realize is that it is actually a swamp. Walking out to the spot I carried Simon in the basket and about halfway there my feet sank down into the mud. I was wearing sandles and now my freshy pedicured toes are caked with mud – oh well it was worth it for the photo.

I think this carriage is going to be as popular as the spiney IKEA basket. This last photo was a specific request
