In other news…

We are having another baby!

due October 25th 2010.

We had our first prenatal visit on Tuesday and our first ultrasound yesterday. Now that I have seen the baby and heard the heart I feel comfortable making a announcement : )

We took Simon to our prenatal visit as we are considering having him attend the birth and I also thought it would be a good way for him to start to understand the process.Β  It was kind of a disaster as though he was interested in the exam the talking part was totally boring to him and he spent the time attempting to disassemble the room. Next time I really need to take some toys or books for him to keep himΒ  distracted. Actually I really want to find him a really nice Dr. kit – or rather a “midwife kit” that we can bring out just for theΒ  appointments. We are seeing our favorite midwives at the Puget Sound Birth center again, only this time we think we will have them come to us for the delivery as I found the drive while in labor unbearable. This time I would like everyone just to come to me : ) And don’t worry I will blog more about homebirth and safety as things progress.Β  I had Myles take some photos during our appointment as I want him to practice with my camera. One of our midwives (Andrea) showed me her daughter’s baby book and it had photos from her prenatal appointments and I was instantly jealous that I never thought to do that while pregnant with Simon so I decided I would not let the opportunity pass this time. The Birth Center is so warm and welcoming and really makes for good photographs. Here is Simon looking for “the baby in mommy’s tummy”at our first visit.

I am not really sure how to explain all of this two a two year old right now he seems rather confused though he is insisting that it is a baby sister (I think because Ivy just had a baby sister). We will be enrolling him in the Penny Simpkin siblings class in the fall (geared for toddlers) and hopefully that and a lot of discussion between now and then will clear things up. But if anyone has recommendations for toddler books I am all ears.

Yesterday when we had our ultrasound I was surprised that they gave me a DVD of the visit. We only ever got printed photos with Simon so the DVD was an unexpected surprise. Myles pulled off some of the video last night and figured out how to get it into a format that I could share. So here it is…

So that’s our big news. I will post more belly shots and updates once I have more belly to photograph and I am of course looking forward to having a newborn of my own to photogrpah again : )

until then

-Emily
