Here is a close up of Simon’s owls. Just quick snap shots – I am not a product photographer, but you get the idea.

Untitled-1

The Owls are loosely based on a silkscreen print that I found on Etsy. I can’t find the store anymore so I am assuming the item sold but that is where I got the idea for the owl body shapes. In the screen print they were just black and white but decorated with patterns, I went with watercolor instead. I have no formal training in watercolor I just kind of make it up as I go. I sketched the owl shape in pencil on watercolor paper then I soaked the paper in hot water and stretched it to wood frames (this is how you keep your watercolors from becoming all bubbly.) When the paper drys it is stretched taut. I then painted my owls and waited for that to dry. Then I outlined them in black ink and painted in the eyes with a white latex paint.

The photos above the rocking chair are the photos of Simon and Ivy from several months ago.

I’m visiting via Ohdeedoh. I absolutely love your photographs. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Cute. Nice job on the owls. I think decorating with things you’ve created is a such a nice way to dress up a room.

  3. Oh my gosh, Emily! I’ve been in that room a million times and never knew you made those owl paintings! Holy cow girl. I should have figured, knowing you, but they seriously look like you bought them at The Land of Nod or something!
