My little Octopus {Halloween 2010}

I took a very cranky child to the beach yesterday afternoon to get some photos of him in his Halloween costume. He was less than cooperative and the light was less than ideal but figuring that I will have no other chance to do this I pressed on. Simon was being very very silly and it got old fast.

I think this will also be the last year where I get to pick his costume, or at least have a major say in pushing him towards something I think I can create. If you want to see past years photos last year he was a owl and the year before that a turtle. I started making his costumes because I could never find what I wanted. I have this weird opinion that the face of the child should be the face of the animal. I don’t like it when they put the animal’s face on the hat or hood of the costume, it just creeps me out (like your kid has 2 faces or something). Sometimes when the child’s face is at the opening of mouth it even looks like the animal is eating your child. This is just one of my weird hangups- don’t worry if your kids costume is like that, I am sure they are adorable. Simon has been to 2 costume parties already and if this baby doesn’t come we will probably take him to the church trunk or treat event tonight. Simon has yet to put together that there is candy involved with this Halloween thing so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to trick-or-treating.

    What an adorable octopus! That’s a seriously cute costume – on a seriously cute kid! Oh, and I completely agree about most kids’ animal costumes having a second face. I thought I was the only one who hated that! 🙂
