We had spent the day at my mom’s house and had taken her lunch which included dark chocolate truffles from Wholefoods. Somehow on the way home Simon got a hold of the box and polished off about half of it. I honestly thought he had fallen asleep in his car seat it was that quite and I had no idea what he was up to until he asked me for a napkin. I wasn’t sure how to handle the punishment, I don’t want him to eat food with out permission and specifically not candy/sweets. I told him that the next time there was chocolate he would not be allowed to have any, that he had already eaten his quota. I had no idea how hard that punishment was going to be to carry out and yesterday I was the worlds meanest mom. We went to a birthday party and of course the cake was chocolate with chocolate chip ice cream. This was the first time chocolate has been offered since the truffle incident so I had to tell Simon that he couldn’t eat any cake since he took chocolates with out asking. It seemed really cruel. He had to watch all of the kids and adults eat their cake. But I think he got the message, he told me “mommy I am so sad that I don’t have any cake” and I reminded him why he coudln’t have any. Yikes being a mom is hard!

I’m not sure I could have been as disciplined about no cake at the party. But I’m glad he could express his emotion about it. It is tough being a mom at times like this.
