We took Simon cross country skiing for the first time. You may be thinking how does a baby ski?
In reality Simon did not ski, in fact I think he slept through the entire experience. He was just bundled up and carried in the sling by Myles.
For those of you who are not familiar with the sport this is not some extreme downhill craziness. In fact the way we do it, its more like a leisurely walk through the woods. So don’t be alarmed we did not ride with Simon on the chair lift and then go hurdling down some steep incline.
see how relaxed and comfortable Simon is!
We were susposed to do this back on my birthday and everyone thought I was crazy to go skiing while pregnant. Unfortunately Myles was sent to Korea to fix a problem airplane so the trip was postponed until now. (For the record this is the second year in a row that Boeing has ruined my birthday)
All the other skiers thought it was great that we had Simon out. "Get them started while they are young" everyone said.
Simon was totally relaxed almost the entire trip, that is until the end when Myles took off his ski and picked it up. A chunk of snow fell off it and landed right on Simon’s face. Simon fussed just until I removed the offending snow. It reminded of me of playing in the snow with my little brother when we were kids. I would try to get as much snow down the back of his snowsuit as possible. He would usually stand there with his arms outstretched, red faced, and screaming. Just for the record Mark, Simon was a much better sport about having cold snow on his bare skin then you ever were.
And for fun here is a quick family snap shot taken with the tri-pod and self timer. I don’t know what is up with our goofy expressions – you get what you get with the self timer.

Just for Mark. I want you to note this and some day when Simon has a sibling and does the snow down the back trick, we’ll see how ‘as a parent’ Emily feels about it.
I don’t think those are goofy smiles. I think they are genuine.
Oh, what fun, and the weather looked great! Emily’s first outing was to Franklin Falls in a back pack. She loved being outdoors so it looks like the tradition carries on. May there be many more such outings. Love, Mom
Looks like fun. The little one seems totally warm and cozy to me. Just had to comment that I love you sense of adventure. Though, I am glad it was just cross-country skiing, and no ski lifts were involved.
Glad to hear you’re out for adventure! And, since you might be up for more photo shoots(?) we’d love to have you all over for lunch sometime and see if you can handle the adventure of snapping a few of Sarah the official “2 year old” — IF she’ll stand still for two seconds that is… Maybe in April?
