A little closer to 30

Sorry for the long absence. I have been ultra busy with lots of newborns and other photography projects and all the regular holiday stuff. Myles has been very busy with the 777 freighter project at work and has been working A LOT of overtime. Consequently the blogging has suffered. I am going to make up for it from now until Christmas I am going to attempt to blog something new every day. Starting with today. So check back frequently. Maybe I will make it a contest… If you are the first person to email me if I miss a day I will send you a fresh batch of the muffins bellow.

I took these photos 2 months ago Simon was 8 months old). My friend Rene, for some strange reason, thinks that cooking with your babies is a great idea. After this experience I am not so sure. Simon was scooping out flour as fast as I could measure it in. He did seem to enjoy the sensory experience though.

We were making Kim Boyce’s Whole-wheat sweet potato muffins. She is a pastry chef as well as a mother who was tired of feeding her kids sugary junk. She invented this muffin recipe as a healthier alternative. Let me just say these muffins are phenomenal. They are a little time intensive to make and they require a lot of ingredients but they are well worth it. I pretty much always keep some in a ziploc bag in the freezer at all times. That way when I get hungry in the middle of the night and have a little snack that is very filling (and yes I do get up in the middle of the night for snacks).

And If you are wondering about the title… well I will just let you wonder.

Well, I only started cooking with my first because she would scream unless she was held or entertained….like 23 hours a day. But now she is a well spoken, polite 12 1/2 year old who can cook. Babies (or toddlers) in the kitchen drive me CRAZY, but I’ve seen the pay off. Just recently my eight year old has begun baking…all by himself.
I must say though Emily….I don’t usually put my babies directly on the stove 🙂
And you’re only getting close to 30? Makes me feel old. I’ll be 33 on Thursday.

Happy Birthday Emily! Simon looks like he hit the mother lode getting to “help”. Watch that salt in the eyes.
